Flash Drive Hippo

Once upon a time I was bored. The boredom brought me to a store where a bought a tiny soft toy hippo. I went home, disemboweled the tiny hippo and implanted a USB flash drive into its belly.
Now I have a do-it-yourself USB flash drive hippo. Not really practical but looks cool.
Unfortunately, the flash drive inside can store one gigabyte only. I'm thinking of a more advanced version.

The Right Way to Eat Surströmming

I've tried eating surströmming twice. Neither of the times did I manage to keep it inside of me for too long. The taste isn't quite as bad as the smell but the smell itself is the most revolting thing I've ever experienced. I think I should use a gas mask next time I dare to open a can of this typical Swedish delicacy.

Taken with my semi-vintage camera system consisting of Canon EOS 50D camera body, Asahi Pentax SMC Takumar 50mm f/1.4 lens mounted using M42 screw mount adapter and a Soviet flash from the 80s called Photon connected to PC sync port. Apparently I wasn't looking for the easiest solution but the challenge itself was the main point.

The trickiest part was holding the flash off the body in one hand to bounce it of the wall behind me while holding the camera in another hand trying to keep it steady so that the objects won't get out of focus since the lens is a manual focus one and won't just refocus once I press the shutter button half way.

Another tricky thing was to get the flash fire at the right power in order not to overexpose the photo taken with almost wide-open aperture. I had to fire the flash first, count to three and shoot before the capacitor inside the flash gets fully charged. It took me awhile before I mastered the trick I've invented.

Useless but makes me proud of myself. And it's always fun to play with vintage photo equipment. There's really something about it. Something truly exciting.

Stockholm: Millesgården

One of the places in Stockholm I haven't visited until recently is Millesgården — Carl Milles garden. It's a pity I haven't had time to visited this place earlier but luckily I've managed to make up for it eventually. If you have a chance and the weather is nice just go there. It's totally worth it!

Munich: BMW Museum

I managed to get there just one hour before the museum closed so they charged me only half of the regular entrance fee. One hour is enough to see pretty much everything so here's a hint for you if you're planning to go there yourself — go one hour before the closing time and ask for a discount.

I took the audio-guide, museum map and went in to learn more about BMW history and all its produce starting with engines and motorcycles ending with cars and weird concepts. The audio-guide started to bore me quite soon and eventually I gave up on it and the map as well. I was randomly roaming around reading the signs and taking photos of the exhibits. It was more than enough to get the feeling of the company.

It all starts with motorcycles.

Engines are exhibited next. I guess only fans would care.

And then finally the cars. All the model range from the first ones to the very last ones.

And ends with a beauty like one of these roadsters.

There are plenty of racing exhibits in the museum. You can touch them but you can't try.

It's also full of different weird cars.

A concept that has never been mass-produced.

Midnight in Stockholm

Summer nights in Stockholm are amazing. They come much later than winter nights and you get to enjoy sunshine for much longer. You actually get to see the sun, not the gray sky few hours a day. And you get a chance to slowly walk home, feel slightly cool breeze and admire views like this one without freezing.

KTH Massacre

The Local hasn't mentioned anything about it but googling for "KTH massaker" reveals a bunch of news articles in Swedish regarding the issue. Apparently an anonymous person posted somewhere on the Internets—judging by the screenshot Aftonbladet posted (assuming it's real) it's been 4chan.org—a message of the following contents: "Ni ska fan få se. Jag ska slå de jävla finnjävlarnas för svensk polis lär ju inte direkt vara snappt på plats" that can be translated as "I'm gonna fuckin show you. I'm gonna beat the fucking finnish guys' record since Swedish police will hardly be there quickly". Seems like I'd better take my camera with me tomorrow since something interesting might happen. :)
